Joan D'Anguera Spanish Winemaker

Montsant, Spain

Joan D'Anguera

Joan d'Anguera is the property of Joan and Josep Anguera, the 7th generation of farmers. They are located in Darmos, the lowest area to the south of the Montsant appellation. The family roots in wine go back to 1820, but the first vintage was bottled in 1984 by their father. Today the estate counts 30 hectars divided into multiple single vineyards. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 200 to 300 meters on clay and calcareous soils, their vineyards are planted in goblet, allowing optimal conditions for the maturity of the fruit. The Anguera brothers strive to work as naturally as possible, both in the winery and in the vineyard, all their wines are fermented with indigenous yeast and not filtered. Their philosophy is based on respect for traditions and following the natural rhythms of the ecosystem. They are certified organic and biodynamic, and like to let nature follow its course, thus allowing the wines to express the personality of their unique terroir. All wines have a careful elevage, with patience and precision; they look for each wine to reach its biggest potential.

Wine RIPE Collab

On a first gathering post COVID restrictions during the summer of 2022, Josep and Joan D’Anguera met up with Jorge Perez, one of the owners of RIPE Wine Imports in Darmos in Catalunya.  The day was full of anecdotes and joy of getting together, celebrating the renewed freedom to travel and the simple but missed joys of life like sharing a dinner table with incredible food, laughs, great friends and artisanal crafted wines.   This very moment sparked the interest to create something together, a wine that could be shared with friends, a pure expression of Granatxa that represented the land where the brothers spend every day working so hard.  This joint venture between RIPE Wine Imports and the Anguera brothers hope to deliver an outstanding wine that could be enjoyed and shared by many!
